Robben Island
For nearly 400 years, Robben Island, 12 kilometres from Cape Town, was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded political troublemakers, social outcasts and the unwanted of society. The Tours Department includes some ex-political prisoners who act as tour guides on Cape Town's World Heritage Site. The three and a half hour tour includes a return trip across Table Bay, a visit to the Maximum Security Prison, interaction with an ex-political prisoner and a 45 minute bus tour with a guide providing commentary. |
Iziko Planetarium
Be transported through the night skies at the Iziko Planetarium in Cape Town. The Planetarium can be found at the top of the Cape Town gardens in the buildings of the South African Museum. Sit back and relax as you gaze up at the dome roof where the night sky is projected. The shows are fascinating and have great appeal to people of all ages. Each show is an audio and visual experience and throughout the year there are different themes to shows. From the comfort of your chair this is a fantastic way to gain a greater understanding and insight into what lies beyond planet earth. |
Two Ocean Aquarium
A window into the spectacular oceans surrounding African coast. Offers its visitors the amazing opportunity to explore below the waterline. Through displays ranging from the small and almost fantastical Knysna seahorses, to large ragged-tooth sharks, the Aquarium holds wondrous discoveries around every corner. Be mesmerised by the swaying of the giant kelp in the aptly named Kelp Forest Exhibit- one of only three living kelp forest displays in the world. Or come face-to-face with giant spider grabs and have an adventurous tactile experience at the Touch Pool. |
Toboggan Track
It is the first downhill toboggan run in Africa. This summer version of snow tobogganing delivers the ultimate in safe, thrilling speed, in a bobsled on wheels down a 1,25 km winding track. Speed is regulated by the rider and there is no need to walk up the hill for your next go because you get on the sled at the bottom and let the automatic pully take you all the way to the top. All ages are welcome (even adults) but under-eight-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult. Their online site even has a live webcamm check it out, log on to: http://www.aquarium.co.za/ |
